Abide and Shine

Recently as I was pondering John 15, the vine and the branches, when the Lord impressed the following image on my heart. It was a vine and a branch with fruit, but this in not what held my attention. There also was a green leaf; a leaf that I knew was always green. What caught and held my attention was the dew resting on this leaf. This dew was shining as brilliant as a diamond caught in the light of the rising sun, shining with the brightness of dawn.

Ascending Mount Zion

Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.
(Revelation 14:1-5)

Harps of God

I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues-last, because with them God’s wrath is completed. And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the ages. Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed. After this I looked and in heaven the temple, that is, the tabernacle of the Testimony, was opened. (Revelation 15:1-5)

Pour Forth

…You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. (Psalm 23:5)

The overflowing cup is a cup completely filled up, running over and pouring forth; rivers of living water flowing out from deep within (John 7:37-39). Pouring forth from a heart that has received Jesus Christ as the Word of truth; a heart marked and sealed with the oil of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). It is a heart that knows how to drink deeply from the well of salvation (Isaiah 12:3) in the shadow of the Almighty’s wings.

Come up Into the Mount of the Lord

Where do you go when you are in need of strength? What do you do when your heart is broken over what seems to be an impossible promise from the LORD? Or when the LORD appears to ask you to do something which negates this promise? Where would you find the strength to obey? If you’ve ever been in a situation like this you know the pressure that a test like this can exert on your faith. Abraham found himself in this place of testing when the Lord asked him to sacrifice Isaac in Genesis 22:1-14.
